'More beautiful than most'
Installation | Painting
29th April - 18th May 2010
"Do not pass the outlines", thats the instruction.
We have to restrict our colours inside the area delimited by the border.
They give us colouring books, so when we havent learnt how to draw properly, we can get a good result. The expected result. They give us the lines already done, so we just have to fill the empty areas. These pre-drawn outlines give us the exact structure to follow. The only guideline is to not infringe on the established limits.
In the same way, they tell us fairy tales about the princesses they dream we will be.So they transmit to us the idea of an acceptable drawing and the idea of who we should be in the future.
As a result, we prefer to colour in Disneys Princess than to make our own lines on a white sheet. At the same time we give pleasure and satisfaction to our parents.
Sleeping Beauty is waiting. Waiting one hundred years to be rescued. And the only way to be rescued is a kiss from her destined prince. She cant do anything to wake up by herself. She has to wait for him, the only man able to get into the cursed castle.
They portray for us the idea of a woman, pretty and passive. When we grow up we realize that this idea is not true, we are not the most beautiful of the kingdom, and no one is coming to rescue us.
