'This body of work, using mattress fragments which have been collected from roadsides, has occupied me for the past two years. Stories of life are mapped through the abject residues impregnated into the mattress fabrics. The surface, becomes a structure, container,membrane, and space to explore similarities instead of differences.
A site of transgressive ambiguity where the bodily contour is absent from the site and only detectable through wear and tear, rips, stains, mildew and residues, where the absent body is represented through its own abjected remains.
For the viewer, the fragile space of the abject lies waiting truthfully, not to be dismissed easily, but to be encountered and acknowledged without horror - to be claimed as oneself. The abject touches on the fragility of our boundaries, of the spatial distinction between our insides and outsides, on issues between privacy and public viewing. '
